Napoleon Perdis at Ulta in Southern CA!

Hello, Gorgeous! Can I just say that I am so excited to share my day with you!? Whilst New York's makeup lovers were counting down to the pre-launch of Urban Decay's Book of Shadows III in Times Square, I was on the edge of my West Coast seat tracking the calendar to this lovely Saturday for an entirely different event!

Today was The Napoleon Perdis event at Ulta in Burbank, California, and my calendar was marked! Not only was the beauty event manned by the artistic talent of 12 members of Napoleon Perdis' creative team, it was also graced by Mr. Perdis, himself! Upon checking in to the event I knew I was in a sub-forum of heaven! The store was all hustle and bustle with beautifully makeup(ed) guys and gals, clad in black and sporting NP's signature tee. In rows of twos were other lucky ladies getting made up all pretty-like while the perfect attitude-y, feel-gorgeous soundtrack blasted from speakers above.

The members of Napoleon Perdis' creative team set to work blushing our cheeks, dusting shadows on our peepers and glossing our lips. Meanwhile, Mr. Perdis circled the room, visiting each station to curl and mascara lashes here, add a bit of warmth there, and perfect each look with his fine-tuned eye. One of the first interactions I took note of today was NP listening intently and placing his hand on a guest's shoulder as she spoke. Genuine and approachable, Napoleon Perdis' down-to-earth persona made him impressive beyond his success as a make-up artist and his prestige-cosmetic-based empire.

When I explained to Mr. Perdis that I had learned of the event via his Twitter(@NapoleonPerdis), he asked me if I(@Society_Gal) was the one he had responded to about the event - and yes, I was! I couldn't believe that A) it was really him Tweeting and B) that he remembered ME?!

It isn't called the Glossy Posse for no reason, honey!

Though this looks like a staring contest, Mr. Perdis is actually inspecting the progress mid-makeover.

The tan Aussie is making this Mexican, Filipino, Irish girl look a bit pale!

The day went off exceptionally and I am so pleased to have been able to meet Napoleon Perdis! He was truly such a kind person and the experience was just lovely! It was one of those days when you smile as you relive it in your mind just before falling asleep...and that's just what I'll do!

The aforementioned, Evil Queen and Cruella de Vil will be joined by comparably cold-hearted evil-doers Maleficent and Dr. Facilier in MAC's Venomous Villains Collection. 30 Second Beauty Tip!

The concern: a visible foundation line along your jaw.

The solution: mix two parts sunscreen and one part foundation on the back of your hand. Apply by dabbing the mixture along your jawline and neck with clean hands, then proceed to rub the sunscreen/foundation in evenly. By mixing sunscreen in with your foundation and applying along your jaw and neck, you will fade the coverage from medium/full on your face to light coverage on your neck. Use this method to prevent unsightly makeup lines!

30 Second Beauty Tip!

The concern: clumpy mascara. Dun dun dun...

The solution: when you notice that your mascara is beginning to thicken and clump more frequently (we're talking problems on the first coat, let alone the second), run your mascara wand under warm water. The warm water will rinse the buildup of mascara from your wand. Once you've cleaned your wand, dry it and take it for another spin in your mascara tube - the resulting application will likely be less goopy and less likely to clump!

Also, resist the urge to "pump" your mascara wand when trying to accumulate more product - pumping actually contributes to your mascara gooping up and drying out quicker than it should!

Urban Outfitters - Another Pretty Face!

Who would have thought that Urban Outfitters, a store that builds its image upon running sideways while most other retailers herd along the mainstream, would someday hop on the beauty bandwagon? I say, "Urban Outfitters" and you say, "projection of social elitism; grungy and minimal; a blur of androgynous garments." Now don't get me wrong - I'd love to run rampant through the store a la Veruca Salt - grabbing at bags, tees and sweaters. However, the store has never struck me as a done-up, full hair and makeup kind(a) place. Yet, despite the brand's seeming aversion to self(beautifying)-maintenance, the array of products offered through the website is unbelievably thorough and truly something to write home about... or to write to The Society about, in my case!

Product Review: Murad Soothing Skin and Lip Care

As previously discussed in (POST: Product Review: Smashbox Emulsion Lip Exfoliant), my lips are a bit high-maintenance (who would have thought!?) in that they become dry at the drop of the proverbial hat. For that reason, I was recommended Murad's Soothing Skin and Lip Care (pictured below). Last night, however, Murad's Soothing Skin and Lip Care surpassed its previous use and upped its value in my beauty arsenal. Allow me to explain: after enduring five weeks of a skincare routine heavy in Retin-A and Salicylic Acid, my dry, irritated skin had me feeling a bit sali[silly]. My face was feeling extremely dry and my skin too tight for comfort. So, of course, I switched to my beloved Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel (POST: Product Review: Peter Thomas Roth Skincare) to slow the drying and bring my skin's texture to a neutral place. Acne Light: place the Light gently against the skin and hold it in place for 5 minutes. Move the Light to the next area and repeat. Continue in this fashion until all areas are addressed. Once the skin is clear continue to use the Acne Light daily if possible, to kill any acne causing bacteria.

Choose the pairing that best suits your current comfort zone. Santa Monica, CA

Another gorgeous day seaside! If you recall, the last time I had visited the beach (Post: My Time in the Sun) was on the opposite side of the country; Tybee Island, Georgia. Today my husband and I took the quick drive to Santa Monica and peered (from the pier) out at the Pacific and the gorgeous shoreline. While we do miss the Atlantic and our place on the beach at Tybee Island, the Pacific shore welcomed us nicely with a soft breeze and enough sunshine to warm our faces.

The perfect Sunday in Santa Monica.

The shoreline looked amazing with the mountains behind, the rainbow of swim apparel at the water's edge and the palm-tree lined Ocean Avenue in the background.

The clouds were creating patterns that I couldn't quite appreciate the full effect of until seeing the contrast against the blue sky in photographs.

I'm no Ansel Adams - nature can be credited for these gorgeous photographs.
