Inspiration: EYES!

Today's eye-makeup look:

The lovely Cydney!

The Urban Decay Naked Palette and MUD eyeshadow in Vineyard were used to achieve this look. I used Virgin, Creep, Gunmetal and Half Baked from the Naked Palette; please comment below or email for questions or to request a tutorial.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils are the perfect medium for creating a well-defined eye with little fuss, even for the shakiest of hands! After lining, try using a shadow brush to apply similarly hued shadow to the liner for a softly edged effect.

Add a pop of highlighter to the inside corners of eyes to bring them back together and counterbalance the black liner that can make them seem farther apart.

Isn't Cydney gorgeous? She's intelligent and kind too! Love her!

A List of My Least Favorite Things:

While sitting in a chair having my eyelashes clamped and curled at school today, I realized that the experience prompts enough anxiety to boost it up to a spot on the list of my least favorite things in life. (I'm considering general circumstances, I know that terrible occurrences like earthquakes, accidents, tornadoes, hurricanes, illness, injustice, poverty, hunger, and similarly heartbreaking things happen every day and are much more serious than anything I am about to list).

As far as my fairly normal list of least (fairly controlled) favorites go, I have a spot reserved for the annual (yes, THAT annual), getting a shot or having blood drawn, going to the dentist, and having my eyelashes clamped inside a metal curling device. I thought of this list while sitting in a chair being made pretty and realized just how much I truly love my Japonesque heated eyelash curler for my own use.

I'm still reeling from the lashing!

What route do you prefer to make those lashes perky?

The Great Liner Debate

As I alluded to in my previous post, I am currently furthering my (makeup) education at a specialized makeup school in Southern California. Which, might I add, is a perk for you also because you'll be receiving more information and helpful tips related to one of our favorite past-times - makeup!

Today's class concentrated on eyeliner; focusing on (material) options, technique, tools, and trends! After practicing applying with varying combinations of the aforementioned, it seemed that the material favorite was "cake" eyeliner. My personal favorite, however, is still pencil eyeliner. I love that pencil liner can be applied in a thin and natural or bold and dramatic style, a clean or smudged line, and can create a nice outcome even for the shaky-handed.

My absolute favorite pencil, you ask?

24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

I am particularly fond of this pencil's creamy texture that can be easily sharpened to create a slimmer line or applied messily and smudged. The 24/7 Glide-on Eyeliners do just that - glide-on, and once applied they stay put! After lining the product is smudge-able for about 30 seconds and then sets in place, where it will stay until you remove it. Not only is this liner available in hot hues like Lust (dark purple), Flipside (bright teal), and Deviant (the perfect royal blue), it can also be purchased in Zero (classic jet black) and several shades from the brown family.

Product information direct from Urban Decay:

The best Eye Pencil ever, ever, ever! Never before has a pencil this creamy and brilliant been waterproof, too. Velvety-soft, this never-before-seen formula stays soft and creamy for blending (about 30 seconds), then dries down to a long-lasting finish that WILL NOT budge. Line eyes with a hint of color or go for the full artistic, multi-hued effect with the wide selection of lush tropical hues, deep metallics and unusually vibrant neutrals. Incredible with Urban Decay Eyeshadows!

Created with 50% moisturizing ingredients suspended in a sophisticated waterproof formula, 24/7 Eye Pencils offer long-lasting color and a dreamy, creamy feel when applied. With Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Cottonseed Oil.

Tips: 24/7 Eye Pencils are ideal for lining inner lids because the waterproof formula stays put. Just apply, try not to blink for a sec, and you’ve got immovable liner.
*The product information above has not been altered or edited in any way. Do not share eye products with others without first sanitizing appropriately between each use.
When it comes to liner, do you prefer gel, liquid, cake, pencil or another option? Which eyeliner product is your favorite?
Goodnight, Gorgeous! Time to rest those pretty peepers!

August Favorites!

Now that August is no more, it's time to look back at which products helped to fill the thirty-one days with beautifully make-up(ed) memories! My list of favorite products for the month of August are as follows:

Seaweed Night Cream

Available at, this night cream is a breath of fresh air when my skin is feeling super dry and tight! While I am hesitant to introduce any skincare product into my regimen because my skin is easily affected, the container shone in celestial light when I read, "our smooth and creamy formulation hydrates skin overnight without the use of any oils, perfect for any dehydrated skin type prone to acne or clogging." Ding, ding, ding; we have a winner! To further enhance this product's like-ability, the texture feels delicious on my skin and the scent is non-invasive!

Naked Palette

With their excellent pigmentation, Urban Decay's shadows always top my list of favorite eye colors; add two shades of my favorite eyeliner (Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eyeliner) and the much-praised Eyeshadow Primer Potion and you've got yourself a pot-o-gold at the end of a naked-hued rainbow! This treasure chest of matte, shimmer and glittery shadows has everything that you'll need to create your eye look - day or night! The rave reviews and constant sold-out status make this purchase obvious - even to the naked eye!

Botanical Facial Gel

Though I am loyal to my favorite Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel and make sure to use it every night, I use the Mario Bedescu Botanical Facial Gel when washing other times during the day. This is the perfect cleanser for my current lifestyle (while furthering my makeup education) as I am washing my face more times than would normally be necessary, now that applying and reapplying makeup is an everyday occurrence. I love this cleanser for makeup removal, however, I save the deep clean feeling for evening with my Salicylic/Glycolic PTR Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel.

This Make-up Designory Cream Foundation provides coverage to above-average needs and, well powdered, will last long enough to run laps around foundation contenders.

Other faves that have been featured in my monthly favorite videos and posts but are, nonetheless, worth mentioning again: Smashbox Photo Finish Light Primer, Bare Escentuals Illuminating Mineral Veil, Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel, Clarisonic Mia, Benefit BadGal Lash, and the Japonesque Heated Mini Eyelash Curler.

What are your current faves?

Too Faced Sale = Too Hard to Shop!

Too Faced Cosmetics has disseminated a rather enticing email, baiting the message with news of a sale on vintage items up to 75% off! The event, which features products that will apparently soon be "gone forever," ends September 8, 2010. This of course, gives us just enough time to find Too many items to adopt for our own collections... providing the brand can get the sale up and running! The website's volume has been so much so that the sale has been paused due to technical difficulties! Methinks the vintage finds and markdowns must be worth the wait if it drew enough traffic to crash the site!

Too Faced sale ETA: pending. My curiosity has been sparked, will you patiently be awaiting the sale?

Urban Decay Primer Potion in a Squeeze Tube!

If you hadn't yet heard about Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion packaging swap, I'm here to deliver the news. The Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion, a truly useful staple for maintaining the desired creaseless shadow effect, has long been housed in a bottle which must have been designed more for visual appeal and less for functionality. As consumers expressed opinions regarding the inability to utilize the product in its entirety due to the bottle shape, UD tweaked the design a couple of times, ultimately resulting in the squeeze tube seen below. The days of beauty die-hards across the globe dauntingly disassembling their Primer Potions via cutting, melting or otherwise McGuyvering said product, are now a thing of the past:

Eyeshadow Primer Potion Professional Size $29.00

Seems like Urban Decay has finally gotten the Potion just right!

Napoleon Perdis at Ulta in Southern CA!

Hello, Gorgeous! Can I just say that I am so excited to share my day with you!? Whilst New York's makeup lovers were counting down to the pre-launch of Urban Decay's Book of Shadows III in Times Square, I was on the edge of my West Coast seat tracking the calendar to this lovely Saturday for an entirely different event!

Today was The Napoleon Perdis event at Ulta in Burbank, California, and my calendar was marked! Not only was the beauty event manned by the artistic talent of 12 members of Napoleon Perdis' creative team, it was also graced by Mr. Perdis, himself! Upon checking in to the event I knew I was in a sub-forum of heaven! The store was all hustle and bustle with beautifully makeup(ed) guys and gals, clad in black and sporting NP's signature tee. In rows of twos were other lucky ladies getting made up all pretty-like while the perfect attitude-y, feel-gorgeous soundtrack blasted from speakers above.

Tim, my makeup artist, applied shadows from the Napoleon Perdis Prismatic Eyeshadow Quad (Fire) $35.00

The members of Napoleon Perdis' creative team set to work blushing our cheeks, dusting shadows on our peepers and glossing our lips. Meanwhile, Mr. Perdis circled the room, visiting each station to curl and mascara lashes here, add a bit of warmth there, and perfect each look with his fine-tuned eye. One of the first interactions I took note of today was NP listening intently and placing his hand on a guest's shoulder as she spoke. Genuine and approachable, Napoleon Perdis' down-to-earth persona made him impressive beyond his success as a make-up artist and his prestige-cosmetic-based empire.

When I explained to Mr. Perdis that I had learned of the event via his Twitter(@NapoleonPerdis), he asked me if I(@Society_Gal) was the one he had responded to about the event - and yes, I was! I couldn't believe that A) it was really him Tweeting and B) that he remembered ME?!

Though this looks like a staring contest, Mr. Perdis is actually inspecting the progress mid-makeover.

The tan Aussie is making this Mexican, Filipino, Irish girl look a bit pale!

The day went off exceptionally and I am so pleased to have been able to meet Napoleon Perdis! He was truly such a kind person and the experience was just lovely! It was one of those days when you smile as you relive it in your mind just before falling asleep...and that's just what I'll do!

Nighty night!

Illamasqua tells Sophie's story.

Illamasqua is commemorating the life of Sophie Lancaster, a 20 year old whose life was taken on August 24, 2007, because of fear of differences in personal expression. I learned of Sophie through Illamasqua and am touched that the brand, which promotes cultivating your (inner) alter ego through use of makeup, is drawing the attention of fans to this cause. Learn about Sophie Lancaster by visiting this link, and then, if you so choose, proceed to Illamasqua's site to support the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

Celebrate differences and individualism in a way that is healthy for yourself and will not be harmful to those around you.

MAC Venomous Villains

A stepmother who first sentences death by way of woodsman and when that plan fails, attempts poison via popularly loved fruit. A mad woman who sits atop PETA's most wanted list when her love of fur stretches to p...pu...puppies ::lip quiver::. The aforementioned, Evil Queen and Cruella de Vil will be joined by comparably cold-hearted evil-doers Maleficent and Dr. Facilier in MAC's Venomous Villains Collection. I suppose now that the Disney Princesses have been claimed by younger audiences, we are left with the dark and despicable cougar dames (and one man-coug - Dr. Facilier). In a dark alley or heavily wooded area I'd much prefer the Princesses, but in this case, I quite like the edge of said villains.

*Image from Source has been resized

MAC's Venomous Villains Collection is expected to launch in the US at the end of September and should be available at MAC retailers worldwide beginning October 1, 2010.

30 Second Beauty Tip!

The concern: a visible foundation line along your jaw.
The solution: mix two parts sunscreen and one part foundation on the back of your hand. Apply by dabbing the mixture along your jawline and neck with clean hands, then proceed to rub the sunscreen/foundation in evenly. By mixing sunscreen in with your foundation and applying along your jaw and neck, you will fade the coverage from medium/full on your face to light coverage on your neck. Use this method to prevent unsightly makeup lines!

Elta MD UV Shield SPF 45 Oil-Free

*Choose a sunscreen that best suits your needs as far as protection factor, skin type, ingredients, etc. An oil-free option that is meant specifically for face is always a must.

MAC Rodarte Collection Update

MAC fall 2010 Rodarte collection promo MAC Rodarte Collection for Fall 2010 + Photos

MAC's controversial Rodarte Collection, which had alluded to the tragic and unbelievable dangers of life in Juarez, Mexico, will not be shipped after all. MAC's FB announcement regarding the collection which was slated to launch September 15 and includes shades titled "Factory," "Sleepless," "Pale," "Badlands," "Sleepwalker" and "Juarez," is as follows:

M·A·C Decides Not to Ship M·A·C Rodarte Makeup Collection Out of Respect for Women & Girls of Ju├írez and their Families

by MAC Cosmetics on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 9:27am
This decision will not impact M·A·C 's commitment to donate all of its projected profits from the collection to benefit the women and girls of Juarez.

Out of respect for the people of Mexico, the women and girls of Juarez and their families, as well as our M·A·C Mexican staff and colleagues, M·A·C has made the decision not to ship the M·A·C Rodarte limited edition makeup collection. This decision will have no impact on M·A·C's commitment to donate all of its projected global profits from this collection to local and international groups that work to improve the lives of the women and girls of Juarez. We are currently conducting due diligence to ensure we donate to organizations with a proven record of directly supporting the women and girls of Juarez.

M·A·C and Rodarte are deeply and sincerely sorry and we apologize to everyone we offended. We have listened very closely to the feedback of concerned global citizens. We are doing our very best to right this wrong. The essence of M·A·C is to give back and care for the community and Rodarte is committed to using creativity for positive social change. We are grateful for the opportunity to use what we have learned to raise awareness on this important issue.

MAC's statement is direct from the FB announcement and has not been altered.

What do you think about the decision to cancel shipments?

Load up on CARGO at Sephora!

You have probably noticed that CARGO is being discontinued in-store at Sephora... however, did you happen to notice that many items from the brand are still available on the store's website? Not only can you still snag several of CARGO's popular cosmetics, the items are deeply discounted! Shop the selection at while supplies last and save yourself an average of 75% off the original retail price!

TexasLash™ Mascara

Above: CARGO's TexasLash is one of the few available that creates tubes around the lashes and removes easily with warm water! This mascara is currently sold at Ulta for $20 but is only $5 at while supplies last!

30 Second Beauty Tip!

The concern: clumpy mascara. Dun dun dun...
The solution: when you notice that your mascara is beginning to thicken and clump more frequently (we're talking problems on the first coat, let alone the second), run your mascara wand under warm water. The warm water will rinse the buildup of mascara from your wand. Once you've cleaned your wand, dry it and take it for another spin in your mascara tube - the resulting application will likely be less goopy and less likely to clump!

Also, resist the urge to "pump" your mascara wand when trying to accumulate more product - pumping actually contributes to your mascara gooping up and drying out quicker than it should!

Here's to lovely lashes, Love!

Urban Outfitters - Another Pretty Face!

Who would have thought that Urban Outfitters, a store that builds its image upon running sideways while most other retailers herd along the mainstream, would someday hop on the beauty bandwagon? I say, "Urban Outfitters" and you say, "projection of social elitism; grungy and minimal; a blur of androgynous garments." Now don't get me wrong - I'd love to run rampant through the store a la Veruca Salt - grabbing at bags, tees and sweaters. However, the store has never struck me as a done-up, full hair and makeup kind(a) place. Yet, despite the brand's seeming aversion to self(beautifying)-maintenance, the array of products offered through the website is unbelievably thorough and truly something to write home about... or to write to The Society about, in my case!

The Urban Outfitters site features impressive offerings including fragrances and products for lids, lips, cheeks, nails, skin and hair. There you'll find quirky, pretty, edgy and surprisingly classic items by brands including, but not limited to: Paul & Joe, Japonesque, Stila, Too Faced, blow, CoSTUME NATIONAL, Anna Sui, Jemma Kidd, NYX, Cutler, Demeter and on and on and on!
